The Dark Moon

Ancestral Whisperings & Inner Descent

As the moon slips into darkness, we enter a potent threshold - a liminal space where silence speaks and shadows stir.

The Dark Moon is not a time of action, but of surrender.

It invites us to descend inward, to listen for ancestral whisperings and tend the fertile soil of our psyche.

In spring’s underbelly, where blossoms mask the compost beneath, we are called to honour what lies hidden.

Meditation

Meditation during the Dark Moon becomes a sacred vessel for ancestral connection. In stillness, we are able to attune to the subtle frequencies of those who walked before us.

Our grandmothers with herb-stained hands, grandfathers with smoke-scented cloaks and life etched in their palms, the keepers of fire, lore, and quiet resilience, their stories echo in our bones.

Try sitting in quiet darkness, visualising a glowing thread linking your heart to theirs.

Ask for guidance, listen for symbols, and trust the impressions that arise.

Create an Ancestral Altar

Picture
An ancestral altar is a living portal.

Choose a space and layer it with intention: photos or symbols of your lineage, seasonal offerings of herbs and flowers and items attribute to your linage.  I have a small bottle of whisky from Scotland on my altar.

Add a candle to represent ancestral fire and a bowl of water to hold memory.

Speak aloud your gratitude and invite their presence.

This altar becomes a sacred space for reflection, ritual, and remembrance. Once that you go to to honour and build your connection.

Shadow Work

Spring is often celebrated for its light, but its roots reach deep into decay. Shadow work during this season helps us compost old beliefs and nourish new growth.

Here are a few prompts to explore:

  • What part of me resists blooming, and why?
  • What ancestral patterns am I ready to break?
  • Where do I fear being seen, and what lies beneath that fear?
  • What does renewal look like when I honour my grief?

Let your journal become a sacred garden - where each written word turns the soil of your soul, making space for truth to sprout and healing to take root.

The Dark Moon is not empty - it is rich with unseen life. In its quiet descent, we find the wisdom of roots, the healing of shadow, and the love of those who walk beside us in spirit.

Let this time be one of reverent listening and soulful tending.
