Releasing Limiting Beliefs Through Spellwork & Journaling

As the moon begins its descent from Full to Dark, it invites us into a sacred cycle of surrender and release.

In this phase, we are called to part ways with what no longer serves us: outdated narratives, inherited wounds, unspoken fears, and especially, limiting beliefs. Those quiet, insidious thoughts that whisper: you’re not enough, you’re too much, you can’t. The Waning Moon offers a chance to see those beliefs for what they are, then gently unwind their grip on you.

A Spell for Releasing Limiting Beliefs

This spell can be as simple or elaborate as you feel, what matters most is your intention.

You’ll need:

  • A candle
  • A piece of paper and pen
  • A fire-safe container or cauldron

  1. Create sacred space and call upon your ancestors for support in your spellwork.
  2. Light your candle - feel the glow as a beacon of transformation.
  3. On your paper, write down the limiting beliefs that arise. Let them flow onto the page. No censoring, no judgment, just raw authentic expression.
  4. Read them aloud - feel their weight. Then say: “These no longer define me. These words are untrue. I release them from me.”
  5. Light the paper from the candle, place it into the container and watch it burn. Sit in silence as the paper turns to ash.

When you've completed the spell continue with the following to deepen your magick.

Journaling for Deep Release

After spellwork, journaling grounds your magick and intention into the everyday.

Use these prompts during the waning phase to unearth deeper truths:

  • Where did this belief originate
  • Why did I carry it?
  • How has it protected or shaped me?
  • How has it limited me?
  • Who am I without this belief?
  • What opens up in its absence?

Let your words wander and flow onto your page. There are no wrong answers, only pathways to self reflection and clarity.

Self-care during a releasing process is not about indulgence and more about sacred tending. As you unburden yourself of limiting beliefs under the waning moon, your energy field softens so it is important to nourish it. This might look like grounding with bare feet on the earth, sipping herbal tea that soothes the nervous system, or wrapping yourself in something that feels like a hug. It could be silence, salt baths, gentle breathwork, or a playlist that holds space for your feelings.

After release, self-care becomes the balm that reminds yourself: I am safe without what I once clung to. In these quiet acts, integration begins.

The Waning Moon teaches us that releasing what no longer serves us is a powerful and sacred practice, making way for new growth, new truths.
